When are the Brake Pads need Replacement

When are the Brake Pads need Replacement

When are the Brake Pads need Replacement: (1) The brake pad material is mismatched and causes noticeable damage to the brake rotor. (2) The total area of detached, peeled, or initially cracked sections of the brake pad exceeds 2cm², or the steel backing has an area of depression greater than 1cm². (3) The wear limit for the brake pad is defined as 9mm. If the remaining thickness of the brake pad after wear is less than 9mm (thickness at any location on the brake pad should not be less than 9mm). (4) The brake pad shows abnormal wear, with a significantly faster wear rate compared to other brake pads. (5) The uneven wear of the brake pad exceeds 3mm (difference between the thickest and thinnest areas). (6) The thickness difference between the brake pads on both sides of the same brake rotor exceeds 3mm.

Types of Rail Transit Brake pads

Types of Rail Transit Brake pads

Rail transit brake pads are a resource-constrained industry, and the raw materials of brake pads have a key influence on the performance of brake pads. Carbon-ceramic composite materials are currently the highest performance rail brake pad materials, but due to their high technical barriers and low degree of industrialization , so the market penetration rate is still relatively low; Powder metallurgy material brake pads are the mainstream products in the current rail transit brake pad market, and the market penetration rate is relatively high. The brake pads currently used in the high-speed railways of major high-speed rail countries such as Japan, France, Germany, and Spain are still mainly powder metallurgy brake pads.

What are rail pads made of

What are rail pads made of

The currently world-wide used track elastic rail pad materials include: 1.Rubber material: Natural rubber, Styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR), Neoprene, Nitrile rubber, EPDM rubber(Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer Rubber) 2.Plastic material(HDPE、EVA、Nylon PA 6) 3.TPV- Thermoplastic Elastomer Dynamic Vulcanizate 4.Micro-foamed materials（Micro-foamed TPEE、TPU、TPV） 5.Micro-foamed thermoplastic elastomer 6.Other composite materials After comparison, it is not difficult to find, that there is a major difficulty in obtaining material parameters and properties that are applicable to a wide range of conditions.  So we need to choose the proper material for rail pad considering both costs and required performance of the local railway companies.

How to choose the ideal rail joint bar

How to choose the ideal rail joint bar

Requirements of an Ideal Rails joints a) Holding rail ends for continuity. b) Sufficient strength & stiffness. c) Adequate expansion gap. d) Adequate elasticity. e) Provision for wear at rail ends. It should not allow the rail ends to get battered in any case. f) Easy removal or replacement, flexibility. g) The joint should fulfill the above requirements with the minimum of initial & maintenance cost. (i.e. it should be economical)
