Rail fish plate for heavy rail

Rail joint bar, or rail fishplate, is to clamp the rail so that the end of the rails cannot move laterally and up and down independently. Each rail joint has left and right bars, which clamp the rails at both ends by tightening the bolts, so it is required to have sufficient strength and impact resistance, and is easy to disassemble and maintain. This rail connectiong component is a key part for railroad transportation safety insurance.

What is light rail & heavy rail?

1. According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), heavy rail (also called rapid transit, rapid rail, subway, or metro rail  ) is an electric railway with the capacity for a heavy volume of traffic; is characterized by high speed and/or rapid acceleration; is generally has high-level boarding; and all or mostly grade-separated.

In comparison, light rail (also called tramway, streetcar, or trolley) is lightweight passenger rail cars operating in short consists (one or two cars) on fixed rails on shared or street-running rights-of-ways.

2. But according to the weight of the rails, heavy rail refers to the rails whose nominal weight of per meter is greater than 30 kg. The common size is 38, 43, 45, 50, 60 (kg / m).

And light rail refers to the rail of which the weight per meter is less than 30 kg.The common size is 38, 43, 45, 50, 60 (kg / m).

Rail Fish Plate for Heavy Rail

General according to the weight of the rails, for light rails (rails of 30 kg/m and below), have 2 holes at the end, and the rail fish plate is used to connect the two ends, so there are 4 holes.
And for heavy rails(rails of 38 kg and above), have 3 holes in the end section and 6 holes in the rail fish plate, such as 60 kg for railway rails.

Quality Control for Rail fish plates

Quality of ALEX rail fish plates is guaranteed by a special heat treatment. When the train is running, rail fish plates (railway joints) play an important role in connecting and fastening rails as well as keeping the integrity of rails. While the speed and load of rails are increasing, it requires a higher performance to the property of rail joints. 

A rail fish plate can connect two rails with six bolts. Relying on the up and down shoulder slopes and the fastening with rails, it can support the large load during the train’s runtime, the fretting wear and other complex stresses.

The property of railway joints always changes with the rate of cooling. What’ s more, during the heat treatment , the hardness and the impact of rail joints can be different according to the degree of water quenching.

After pouring were conducted, two types of the process which are called immediate quenching and tempering processes can give out some important information. Because of the slow drop of temperature, it can lead to a high degree of the hardness. So the mechanical property of rail joint becomes more advantageous.
