The rail pad, or called rail elastic pad, refers to a pad made of rubber or plastic, which is installed between the rail and the concrete under-rail component. The main function of rail pad is to buffer the high-speed shock and vibration generated when the vehicle passes the rail, protect the roadbed and sleepers, and electrically insulate the railway signal system.

Installation Instructions
1. Rail pad should be narrower than the rail it is supporting (nominally 5mm). The pad is normally supplied in 12 metre lengths.
2. No installed length of pad should be less than the spacing between three pairs of crane rail fixing clips.
3. The pad may be cut to precise length of rail. It can be cut with a hacksaw or jigsaw.
4. Before installing Mark 7 pad, the supporting area should be clean and free of oil, grease or any projections likely to damage the pad.
5. It is preferable that the steel structure below the pad is not painted.
6. The flutes of the pad are placed facing upwards.
7. If the rail is to be welded the pad should be protected from excessive heat during welding by being removed under the weld or by being protected with a thermal barrier.
Kunshan Alex can also produce undersleeper pads, ballast mats or structure protection mats for use on concrete and steel bridges. These tend to be cutomized purpose designed to take into account axle loads, track speeds and local environmental conditions.
